Dolomite peaks and peaceful alpine pastures
The Natural Park in the summer: a unique experience for mountain
enthusiasts
In 1981, the uniquely beautiful natural area surrounding the
Fondovalle Refuge was declared as a protected area. And with
good reason: the Dolomite mountains comprise a number of impressive
peaks, including the famous Three Peaks of Lavaredo, and are
formed of dolomitic limestone carved by erosion into bizarre,
fascinating shapes that captivate excursionists. It is not by mere
chance that the courageous pioneers of alpine climbing and the
most famous alpine guides originate from this area, and
numerous fantastic legends bear witness to the way in which
this mountain setting has always stimulated man’s imagination.
Today, the Sexten Dolomites area offers some of the best
itineraries in the world. There is plenty of variety: easy
hikes, extreme climbs, walks to old battle sites or biking tours
across the screes are just a few of the numerous possibilities.
